Sheriff Gregory Tony is announcing an assessment from the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation, Inc. (CFA). The assessment will take place June 30 through July 2, 2020 to examine all aspects of the Broward Sheriff’s Office’s policy and procedures, management, operations and support services.
The assessors will evaluate if BSO is meeting the approximately 250 life, health and safety standards set by the Commission as part of a voluntary process to receive this accreditation – a highly-prized recognition of law enforcement excellence.
Due to the extent and impact of COVID-19 on the State of Florida, it has become clear that at this time, traditional in-person onsite assessment activities are not in the best interest of the participating agencies and assessors. The CFA has approved an Electronic Assessment Plan to facilitate agency assessments during this period of unusual circumstances. The assessment team comprising of law enforcement practitioners from similar agencies will be reviewing written material, conducting interviews and observing compliance to standards via a virtual platform.
