SCAM ALERT: The Broward Sheriff’s Office wants to help protect you from becoming a victim. Scams to be aware of:
🔸There have been reports of persons contacting victims by phone regarding fraudulent activity on their bank accounts and sending someone directly to their home to swap out the victims’ bank cards with new cards. Please DO NOT give your cards or other information such as PIN number to anyone over the phone and/or in person.
🔸The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is warning against a text scam claiming to be from the “FCC Financial Care Center”offering money for Covid-19 relief. There is no such program and the text is likely a phishing attempt to steal banking and other personal information.
🔸Another similar scheme involves scammers, pretending to be from the IRS, texting you a link to receive your stimulus check. Instead, clicking the link installs malware and steals your information. Do not click on unverified or unsolicited links received via text or email.
If you have been affected by a scam, please call your local law enforcement agency or call our non-emergency number at ‪954-764-4357‬ (HELP).
