Sheriff Gregory Tony recognizes the vast quantity of services that not-for-profit organizations provide residents in Broward County. He understands the Law Enforcement Trust Fund (LETF) is vital to the Broward Sheriff’s Office mission of connecting with youth and providing programs, mentorships and assistance and is committed to supporting these agencies in any way he can.
As such, he streamlined the process for organizations to ensure that the process is fair and funds are distributed equitably to the most qualified, deserving organizations. Additionally, upon assuming command of BSO, Sheriff Tony requested that an audit of the LETF be conducted.
BSO contracted with Carr, Riggs & Ingram LLC (CRI) September 2019 to conduct a forensic examination of the LETF. The review period of the LETF forensic examination is from January 1, 2008 through June 30, 2019.
Many of the recommendations made by CRI were implemented by BSO prior to the completion of the report. The remainder of the recommendations are currently being implemented and integrated into BSO’s policies and procedures.
The audit report has been sent to the Broward County Commission.
As a continuation of Sheriff Tony’s efforts to bring more accountability and transparency to BSO, the results of the forensic examination report is available to the public on sheriff.org. Click here to review the complete report.
