A 36-year-old Golden Gate man is being held on a federal immigration detainer in the Collier County jail after an investigation by detectives turned up photos of child pornography on his cell phone.
Detectives arrested Eugenio Tunpop of 2085 49th Terrace on a warrant Thursday charging him with two counts of obscene material-possession of photo of sexual performance by a child.
Following his arrest a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainer was placed on Tunpop through ICE’s 287(g) program. ICE lodges detainers on individuals arrested on criminal charges who ICE has probable cause to believe are removable aliens.
Once Tunpop has satisfied his local criminal charges he will be released to ICE custody. The 287(g) program is a law enforcement tool and serves as a deterrent to criminal illegal aliens.
The Collier County Sheriff’s Office initiated an investigation after the agency received cyber tips from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children. Through the investigation Tunpop was developed as a suspect. Detectives performed a forensic analysis of Tunpop’s cell phone and found images depicting child pornography.
