Damian Jesus Varona was arrested after he entered two vehicles.
On May 27, 2020 around 1:00 am, the Cape Coral Police Department received a complaint of a prowler in the 2000 block of NE 25th St. As Officers were searching for the prowler, the caller told Officers that he saw a w/m attempting to open his vehicle by trying the door handles.
As Officers were driving through the area, they found a vehicle with an open door in the 2400 block of NE 22nd Ave. The vehicle was entered and property was removed. A short time later, Officers saw Varona running through the neighborhood and ran toward the canal bank. K-9 and Aviation found Varona in a tree line along the canal bank. Varona jumped into the canal in an attempt to avoid being arrested. Officers were on the other side of the canal and took Varona into custody.
Varona was armed with a folding knife during the burglaries and resisted Officers commands to stop. He was charged with: 2 counts of Armed Burglary of an Unoccupied Conveyance and 2 counts of Resisting an Officer Without Violence.
The property that Varona took from the vehicles was returned to its owners.
