During the COVID-19 crisis, there has been an increase in people who have lost their jobs and need help with feeding their families. The Harry Chapin Food Bank of Southwest Florida, has accepted this challenge and has mobile drive through spots throughout Southwest Florida. One of the locations is directly behind Sun Splash Family Waterpark.
School Resource Officers are strategically placed to help direct traffic and ensure there are no safety issues. The Cape Coral Police Department’s SRO program has been assisting the Harry Chapin Food Bank of Southwest Florida since May 1, 2020 and has assisted with the distribution of 6,000 meal packages.
Sgt. Paul Blanchard and Marine Officer Robert Goff, of the Cape Coral Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 33, presented John Kuhn, the Special Events Manager, of the Harry Chapin Food Bank of Southwest Florida a $2,000.00 check to help the Southwest Florida families who are in need.
John Kuhn explained that the donation will be able to help purchase the equivalent of $16,000.00 worth of food. Mr. Kuhn was very thankful for the donation. 540 lbs of food is given to families in need at each site.
