Cape Coral Police Department- Shots Fired Call Leads To Arrest

On July 3, 2020 around 2:30 am, Officers responded to the 1300 block of SE 24th Avenue due to a shots fired call.

A man later identified as, Virgil Whipple, was seen walking to the rear of his residence with a rifle and shots were heard a short time later. Officers responded to 1325 SE 24th Ave to investigate. As Officers were arriving, they heard gun shots coming from the rear of this residence. Whipple was firing his weapon in a wooded area behind his residence, beyond the Cape Coral city limits.

Additional Officers and Lee County Deputies arrived. Whipple had walked back into his residence. Officers began speaking with Whipple and asked him to step out of his residence. Whipple exited his residence and was instructed to keep his hands raised. Whipple began to put his hands in his pocket. Whipple would not follow the commands of Officers on scene and was taken into custody and charged with Resisting an Officer Without Violence.
