PBSO helicopter, Marine Unit and the Coast Guard continued with the search for the airplane. At sunlight the airplane was located by PBSO helicopter offshore in approximately 40 feet of water. PBSO Marine Unit, Coast Guard and FWC responded to the located area. PBSO divers entered the water, located the plane which was pretty much intact and recovered the pilot (11:00 am)
The pilot, an adult male, was transported to shore and turned over to the Medical Examiner’s Office.
PBSO Violent Crimes Division will assist the NTSB with notifying the pilot’s family.
The FAA can provide more information on the type of airplane and flight information.
NTSB is the lead investigating agency. Please reach out to NTSB for further information on how the crash occurred and how the airplane will be recovered, etc.

Deputies responded to the Boynton Ocean Inlet in reference to an airplane seen crashing into the ocean. (4) witnesses were located whom all advised that they saw a small airplane nose dive into the water approximately 1 mile off land. The PBIA Air Traffic Control Tower confirmed they had lost contact with an airplane in the area and received a Mayday Alert. A Command Post was setup and the following Agencies were on scene assisting: Manalapan PD, Ocean Ridge PD, PBC Fire Rescue, Boynton Beach PD & Marine Units, PBSO Marine Units, FWC Marine Units, PBSO Aviation & Drone Units, Coast Guard Aviation and Marine Units.
After an extensive search of the area the airplane was not located. The Coast Guard took lead on this case and continued to search the area throughout the night. PBSO Marine Units will assist and continue the search of the airplane, in the early morning, if not located by the Coast Guard this evening.
