Please bear with us while we take a moment to celebrate National Black Bear Day.

Florida’s largest land mammal is one of the state’s greatest success stories. The bear population has increased from several hundred less than 30 years ago to more than 4,000 today.

It seems almost every day a black bear is spotted in our community, and many of those sightings are in residential neighborhoods. So, it’s important to educate ourselves about how to safely live with bears.

Our law enforcement partners at the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) have created a comprehensive educational program that does just that. FWC has compiled resources, videos and links that teach residents how to safely live with the Florida black bear.
