We must always remember that our freedom is not free. On the 76th anniversary of D-Day, we remember and honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice to free Europe from the control of Nazi Germany.

On this date in 1944, 156,000 American, British and Canadian forces landed on five beaches along a 50-mile stretch of the heavily fortified coast of France’s Normandy region. The invasion was one of the largest amphibious military assaults in history.

The Battle of Normandy, codenamed Operation Overlord, hastened Germany’s defeat less than a year later.

We honor and remember the bravery and sacrifice of those who fought for our freedom.
