Security video helped deputies reel in a suspect who they say broke into an East Naples marina this week and stole thousands of dollars’ worth of merchandise.

Gregory Stuart Lacefield, 32, of Naples was charged with burglary, grand theft $10,000-$20,000 and criminal mischief following his arrest Thursday in connection with an early morning break-in Wednesday at Brookside Boat Marina, 2027 Davis Blvd.

Collier County Sheriff’s Office arrest reports say Lacefield entered the closed marina office without permission sometime between 2 a.m. and 2:30 a.m. and removed various boat parts and electronics.

A review of the marina’s security camera video showed the suspect, who was wearing light colored shorts, a T-shirt and a beanie on his head, removing the items. Deputies also reviewed security camera footage from a nearby convenience store which showed the suspect had entered the store after the burglary. From that video deputies identified the suspect as Lacefield from previous law enforcement encounters.

Deputies caught up with Lacefield at a hotel on Davis Boulevard around 11:30 p.m. Thursday after receiving a tip on his whereabouts. Lacefield was additionally charged with possession of cocaine and narcotic paraphernalia following a search of his back pack by deputies.
