Today we celebrate Juneteenth, the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States. Juneteenth is a celebration of humanity and conveys the message that freedom is the basic fundamental right of all. It is celebrated on June 19 to commemorate the abolishment of slavery in Texas in 1865.
