The Broward Sheriff’s Office, along with several federal and other South Florida agencies, are preparing to participate in “Operation Iron Tide,” a full scale exercise designed to test emergency response to an active shooter incident at sea.
The exercise will take place from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 23, one mile off of the Dania Beach pier adjacent to Port Everglades. The training is closed to the public. There is no reason to be concerned.
The scenario involves an active shooter terrorist threat on a dinner boat and will enable first responders to practice coordinated response plans. BSO’s departments of Preparedness and Response, Law Enforcement, and Fire Rescue and Emergency Services will participate along with Port Everglades, the FBI, the U.S. Coast Guard, fire departments from the City of Miami and Miami-Dade County and fire departments from across Broward County.
