Today I joined Department of Homeland Security Acting Secretary Chad Wolf, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Administrator Pete Gaynor and Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez at the Miami-Dade Emergency Operations Center. Sheltering and evacuation protocols will look different this hurricane season due to COVID-19. The Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) has used guidance from the CDC, FEMA and the American Red Cross to create our own state guidance and provided that to counties.
At my direction, FDEM has been working to secure adequate supplies of PPE and other critical items to prepare for hurricane season, including:
✅10 million masks for shelters
✅12 million N95 masks in deal with Honeywell
✅50 generators – the most the state has ever owned
