As we head into Super Bowl LV, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office partnered with Florida Highway Patrol to deter aggressive driving in Hillsborough County.
On Wednesday, January 27, 2021, a joint operation was conducted in areas flagged as “crash corridors” based on traffic crash data. Deputies focused their education and enforcement on Hillsborough Avenue, N. Dale Mabry Highway, Waters Avenue, Sheldon Road, and I-275.
The goal is to curb aggressive driving patterns ahead of the influx in traffic due to Super Bowl LV. During the nine-hour saturation, Sheriff Chad Chronister, 28 HCSO deputies, and two FHP troopers made 346 traffic stops that resulted in 200 citations, 187 written warnings, and zero arrests.
“Our Traffic Enforcement Unit is trying to slow people down and stop that aggressive behavior behind the wheel that is causing so many traffic-related crashes and senseless deaths,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Let’s all do our part: drive safely, plan ahead and let’s get to where we need to get to safely.
