UThe Hernando County Sheriff’s Office, and our law enforcement partners throughout the state, are actively monitoring the events surrounding the death of George Floyd as they pertain to the Tampa Bay area, and in particular Hernando County.
The men and women of the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office are committed to the safety and security of all Hernando County citizens and our many visitors.
We understand social media is a popular forum to discuss various issues. We are asking our citizens that do not have firsthand knowledge, however, to please refrain from publicly posting or publicly sharing rumors about events related to protests and/or active looting supposedly occurring in our county.
Rumors just help to incite unrest where none exists.
Once that rumor is shared publicly, it can quickly (and unnecessarily) use up valuable resources.
If you become aware of an incident and want to check on its validity, we encourage you to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 352-754-6830, or call 911 if it’s an emergency.
The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office is committed to serving our community by partnering with our community leaders, now and in times of need, with a common goal of helping keep Hernando County a great place for everyone to live, work, and play.
