2019-36384/1Criminal attempts to elude police by biking, running, swimming away.
On Oct. 24, 2019 just before 10:30 a.m., Hernando County Sheriff’s Office deputy A. Valdez was conducting proactive patrol in the area of Falcon Avenue and Cambay Lane in Spring Hill when he observed a male riding a bicycle approaching him.
District Two Detectives Bust Grand Theft Auto Group
In early October, District Two Property Crimes Detectives identified a Grand Theft Auto group operating in Hernando County. The detectives worked day and night over the next few weeks to identify and apprehend suspects and recover the stolen vehicles.
On 10-07-19, detectives responded to 1068 Roosevelt Avenue in Masaryktown in an attempt to locate two suspects, Sarah Mack and Kenny Harbaugh. Upon arrival, detectives did locate Mack, who was placed under arrest for a Pasco County warrant. Harbaugh was not at the residence.
Retail Theft Leads to the Arrest of Two and More Stolen Property
On 10-19-19 just after 9:30 p.m., Hernando County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a large department store on Cortez Boulevard in Brooksville regarding a Retail Theft (shoplifting).
The caller advised that two individuals, a male and a female, were inside the store concealing items on their person. During the call, the female walked out of the store.
Sheriff Announces Death of Sergeant Louis Genovese
Sheriff Al Nienhuis is saddened and deeply regrets to announce the sudden passing of Sergeant Louis “Lou” Genovese.
Sergeant Genovese was hospitalized approximately three weeks ago after a sudden onset medical condition. During that time, physicians worked tirelessly to correct that condition.
Sergeant Genovese passed away peacefully last night, surrounded by his loving family, friends, and Hernando County Sheriff’s Office family. He was 41 years old.

The other day I got a call from Mexico. I ignored it like I ignore all such calls, those that are ID’d as coming from Florida, Texas, Alaska, and my favorite, United States. I also ignore any nameless number. Everyone I want to talk to is in my phone with their name displayed.
Pasco County man arrested for sexual battery of 10-year-old Brooksville girl
On 10-12-19 at 10:20 a.m., deputies responded to a residence in Brooksville regarding a missing 10-year-old girl.
The child was last seen around 3 a.m. when a family member saw her going to use the bathroom. When family members awoke at 6:40 a.m., they were unable to locate the child. The family searched for the child prior to contacting law enforcement.

On 09-25-19, the Honorable Judge Stephen Toner sentenced Joshua Daniel Carroll to 24 years in the Department of Corrections, followed by 10 years of probation for the 11/22/17 homicide at 15013 Old Stage Coach Road in Brooksville of Janet J. Carroll W/F DOB 09/04/1985
Joshua Daniel Carroll pleaded guilty on August 14th, 2019 to second-degree murder, not premeditated.in connection with the murder of his wife
The medical examiner listed the cause of death as traumatic asphyxia.
