Hillsborough County law enforcement, school leaders holding tabletop discussion on safety

What: The top law enforcement officers in Hillsborough County will join school leaders to discuss safety measures in place this academic year and areas for growth in order to keep students protected in the event of an emergency.
When: Thursday, September 24, 2020, 1:00-2:30 p.m.

For the first time, leaders of every Hillsborough County law enforcement agency will join together for an open discussion with Hillsborough County Public Schools on school safety.

Thursday, September 24, Superintendent Addison Davis and Sheriff Chad Chronister will lead a discussion on the security measures in place and in progress throughout the Hillsborough County School District this academic year. The purpose of the meeting is to provide updates and review school safety initiatives in order to allow law enforcement to better respond to area schools in the event of an emergency or other incidents on campus.
Attendees will include at least one representative from the following agencies:
  • Hillsborough County Public Schools
  • Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office
  • Temple Terrace Police Department
  • Hillsborough County Fire Rescue
  • Tampa Port Security Director
  • Hillsborough County Office of Emergency Management
  • Plant City Police Department
  • FDOE Office of Safe schools
  • Tampa Fire Rescue
  • FBI-Tampa
  • Plant City Police Department
  • HCPS Security and Emergency Management
  • MacDill Air Force Base
  • Tampa International Airport Police
  • Florida Department of Law Enforcement
The meeting, which starts at 1 p.m. at the Falkenburg Road Jail, is primarily closed, however, media outlets will be permitted to enter beginning at 2 p.m. to gather b-roll and conduct interviews with attendees when the discussion concludes at 2:30 p.m.
