At a time when food insecurity is increasing and people are struggling from the impact of COVID-19, the Broward Sheriff’s Office Department of Detention and Calvary Chapel are hoping to ease the burden by providing meals to those in need during this holiday season.
BSO DOD assisted with the distribution of Calvary Chapel’s donation of more than 300 Thanksgiving meals to families of inmates housed at Broward jails. Many times, having a loved one incarcerated can worsen the financial struggles and heighten stress. Providing this meal is a way in which inmates can contribute to their families.
The families with transportation picked up the donations at the North Broward Bureau parking lot where they were served by DOD personnel who volunteered to participate. Calvary Chapel volunteers delivered gift cards for a turkey and non-perishable food items to families who were not able to attend.
