On Monday, June 22, 2020, at approximately 6:20 pm, Lee County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a vehicular collision that occurred near the intersection of 40th Street Southwest and Vera Avenue South in Lehigh Acres.
Upon arrival, Traffic Unit and East District deputies observed a single-vehicle collision involving a 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe that struck a dumpster in front of a home under construction.
The passenger-side of the sport utility vehicle struck the dumpster with significant force peeling back nearly the entire passenger side of the vehicle. With the entire side of the vehicle exposed, the front passenger was found unresponsive.
Having suffered life-threatening injuries, the passenger was removed and trauma-alerted to Lee Memorial Hospital. The driver was able to free himself and exit the vehicle after the collision.
Witnesses identified Julio Adrian Flores Trujillo, still on scene, as the driver of the vehicle. Flores Trujillo became disruptive and aggressive when approached, had an odor of alcoholic emitting from his facial area and swayed while standing. His speech was slurred and his eyes were watery and bloodshot.
The subject was taken into custody, placed in the rear of a patrol vehicle, and began to vomit. He, too, was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital for medical assistance. Julio Adrian Flores Trujillo continued to be verbally abusive and resistant. Medical staff indicated that his Blood Alcohol Content was 0.257%, more than three times the legal limit.
Emergency Room staff additionally indicated that Flores Trujillo’s passenger succumbed to the injuries that he received in the collision.
Julio Adrian Flores Trujillo (DOB 10-20-1987) has been charged with one count of Driving Under the Influence, one count of Driving Under the Influence Resulting in the Death of Another, one count of Driving without a License Resulting in Death and two counts of Driving Under the Influence with Property Damage. He has additionally been charged with Resisting Officer without Violence.
