K-9 Tracks, Apprehends Lehigh Hit-and-Run Suspect

Around 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 18, 2020, deputies responded to a hit-and-run at the intersection of Gunnery Road and Lee Boulevard in Lehigh Acres.

Witnesses saw the suspect’s truck strike another vehicle. The driver and four passengers immediately exited the truck and ran away from the scene.

East District deputies quickly located the four passengers, but the suspect was nowhere to be found.

K-9 Recon and his handler responded to the scene and began tracking the suspect.

After a lengthy track, K-9 Recon located the suspect, Darwin Fernandez Rodriguez (DOB 9/9/95), in a heavily wooded area.

Fernandez Rodriguez was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a crash, driving without a license, and resisting arrest without violence.
