UPDATE
MISSING CHILD FOUND SAFE

Major David Harper of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office reports that 5-year-old Naomi Rose Herring was found safe and uninjured in a cabin located at Ragans Family Campground at approximately 1:31 PM by campground staff. The campground is located at 1051 SW Old St. Augustine Road in Madison. The same cabin had previously been searched and found to be unoccupied. Naomi was in good spirits and told investigators that she left the motel room to find her mother, got lost and wandered into the campground. Out of an abundance of caution, Madison County Fire Rescue responded for evaluation. This investigation remains active and charges are pending in the case upon review by the State Attorney’s Office. “I am extremely proud of the quick work by our deputies, investigators and our partners, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Federal Bureau of Investigation Jacksonville Field Office, Florida Department of Corrections, Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission, Leon County Sheriff’s Office, Florida Highway Patrol, Department of Children and Families, and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The Madison County Sheriff’s Office is very fortunate to have these established partnerships within the law enforcement community. This type of case requires precise coordination of multiple resources. I am thankful for the positive outcome.” Major David Harper
