A 21-year-old Palm Springs, Florida man was given a mandatory notice to appear in court citation Sunday after he was found to be in possession of a speared snook.
Marine Deputy Willie Guerra was on patrol near Mile Marker 63 on the bayside when he noticed a diver with a speargun near the shore.
The diver was identified as Yolex Arce Nunez. Deputy Guerra asked to inspect his catch and found the speared snook.
State law mandates snook be caught by hook and line only. They cannot be snagged by hooks or speared.
