Murder Investigation Leads to Arrest
On Tuesday, July 7, 2020, patrol officers responded to the area of 800 Edgewood Avenue West in reference to an individual who had been shot. Upon arrival, officers located the victim, who was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Unit responded to conduct an investigation. Investigative efforts revealed that the deceased, Malik Sykes (Black/Male, 22), and a second suspect had attempted to commit an armed robbery. In the course of committing this offense, Sykes was shot and killed as a result.
The second suspect in the armed robbery attempt was subsequently identified as:
Shantez Forbes
Black/Male
21 years old
On Wednesday, August 26, 2020, the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force located and arrested Shantez Forbes. He has been charged with Second Degree Felony Murder, Shooting or Throwing Deadly Missiles, Attempted Armed Robbery, and Unlicensed Carrying a Concealed Firearm.
