Sheriff Gregory Tony joins the Florida Highway Patrol on advocating for stronger regulation on illegal riders on roadways endangering our community.
This past January, the Broward Sheriff’s Office hosted a joint news conference with several law enforcement agencies. The conference discussed in detail the traffic safety and enforcement measures that address the unlawful ATV/dirt bike ride outs that unfold during the national day of observance for Martin Luther King Jr.
During this press conference, Sheriff Tony had the opportunity to discuss future legislation with FHP Major Robert Chandler and Broward County Chiefs of Police Association President Chief Anthony Rosa. This discussion focused on what we can do better as a law enforcement agency to prevent future issues concerning these illegal riders.
Today, Sheriff Tony is happy to announce that with the help of Major Chandler and Senator Lauren Book a new bill has been filed that will strengthen our ability to enforce laws and prevent illegal riders on Florida roadways from endangering our community.
This bill, Senate Bill 1248, will give law enforcement the ability to impound the illegal riders’ vehicles as well as to impose hefty fines and penalties.
