The Sheriff’s Office has made multiple citations over the weekend in three separate cases involving lobster, conch and fin fish.
- Middle Keys Marine Deputy Willie Guerra was on patrol Saturday near Mile Marker 61 on the Oceanside near Duck Key when he observed a man, later identified as Reidel Carrandi Zerquera, 42, of Cutler Bay, Florida, place a lobster in his wet suit. Deputy Guerra approached and asked to inspect his catch. The inspection yielded three undersized wrung lobster tails and four whole lobsters, one of which was undersized. Deputy Guerra issued him a mandatory to appear in court citation for the lobster violations.
- Deputy Guerra then made contact with Deputy Ian Douthirt who was at Conch Key Village at Mile Marker 62. Deputy Douthirt advised he observed a man walking from the beach with two queen conchs. Deputy Guerra identified the man as 20-year-old Ulysses Casanova of Miami. He was found to be in possession of five total queen conchs. Casanova was issued a mandatory to appear in court citation.
- Upper Keys Sgt. Robert Dosh inspected the catch belonging to 31-year-old Roberto Rodriguez of Miami on Sunday. Rodriguez was fishing near Whale Harbor. Rodriguez was found to be in possession of three undersized mangrove snappers. Rodriguez was issued a mandatory to appear in court citation.
