Tis the season for holiday safety tips! December’s episode of the Shop Talk with the Sheriff podcast focuses on important safety reminders and crime prevention tips as you shop online or in person. You will also learn more about helpful programs and services offered by the Broward Sheriff’s Office such as Operation Front Porch and the Vacation Home Watch Program.
This is a busy season for businesses, as well as thieves. With more people shopping online this year, packages are piling up on front porches and criminals are keeping an eye out for something to steal. Be sure to sign up for delivery alerts and track your package online. If you are not home, have your purchases delivered to your place of work or a neighbor’s house. Some BSO district offices also offer Operation Front Porch, a service that allows residents to ship deliveries to your local BSO district office until you can pick them up.
If you are shopping in person, be aware of your surroundings and try not to get distracted even if your hands are full. It’s also a good idea to find a parking space under a well-lit area and keep your purchases out of sight or in your trunk.
Residents can also sign up for BSO’s free Vacation Home Watch Program. Deputies will drive by unoccupied residences and perform a daily perimeter check for signs of break-in or suspicious activity.
To learn more about these programs, call or stop by your BSO district office and listen to this month’s Shop Talk with the Sheriff for free here or on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts and Pocket Casts, Breaker, Overcast, RadioPublic and Castbox.
