Two of the oldest and most storied franchises in the history of the National Football League will meet Sunday evening in Miami, Florida in Super Bowl LIV (54 in non-Roman numerology). The San Francisco 49ers. who now play in Santa Clara, California (a part of Silicon Valley) represent the National Football Conference and have won five Super Bowls, mostly under the late great legendary coach Bill Walsh who perfected the West Coast Offense with his Hall of Fame quarterbacks Joe Montana and later Steve Walsh and receiver Jerry Rice. San Francisco boasts one of the leagues’ best defenses, ironically in 2020, thanks to the excellent leadership of General Manager John Lynch and his young head coach, Kyle Shanahan.
The Niners are one point underdogs to the American Conference Champion Kansas City Chiefs who are in their first title game in fifty years. They won Super Bowl IV over Hall of Fame coach Tom Landry’s Dallas Cowboys in 1970 with Hall of Fame coach Hank Stram and quarterback Len Dawson after Iosing Super Bowl II to megalegend Vince Lombardi’s Green Bay Packers who won his final championship in 1968.
Today’s Chiefs are coached by Andy Reid who took the Philadelphia Eagles to a Super Bowl a dozen years ago and have arguably the most exciting player at quarterback in the game with Patrick Mahomes, a twenty-four year old gunslinger in the style of Hall of Famer Brett Favre. The Kansas City Chiefs have the most potent offense in football and are comeback kings. They will have to beat former Tom Brady backup Jimmy Garropollo whose Hollywood looks will have football widows glued to their sets Sunday.
