When responding to calls, first responders often encounter children who are anxious or frightened by their presence. To help ease those anxieties, emergency crews will—when possible—give out toys to kids they meet while on duty. This unexpected gift oftentimes provides comfort to a child while reassuring them that first responders are there to help.
On Friday, Feb. 26, The Florida Humane Society in Pompano Beach will donate over 1,500 stuffed animals to Broward Sheriff’s Office Pompano Beach district deputies and to members of Pompano Beach Fire Rescue (PBFR). Emergency crews will then carry the toys with them on calls and distribute them accordingly.
Carol Ebert, president of The Florida Humane Society, has donated stuffed animals to Pompano Beach first responders for several years. The Florida Humane Society receives the items from local businesses and then shares them with its community partners.
This donation allows BSO deputies and PBFR to continue their efforts in providing comfort to children during difficult times.
